WHAT IS ECOLOGY 
Ecology teaches us for relations between people and vegetable, people and animals... It's a tree that has very long branches. (Try to find out what means). Do you do something for the environment? What happens with garbage? What happens with trees? What happens with animals? All this is ecology...

ENVIRONMENT AND ME
If we do something for the environment, in the same way environment will do for us. Many people and other living beans live together and help each other. To live together needed are some things without which there will be no life, like: water, sun and air... But, except these things to live we need also good and health environment. We must take actions, we must fight against ecological, environmental problems, which are destroying our environment, which are destroying our life. So, don't forget: If we do something for the environment in the same way environment will do for us.

WATER
Water is one of the things that we need to live. Near 80% of earth's surface is water. But, 97% of water is an ocean, and this water is not for drinking. 2% of water is ice and we also don't use this kind for drinking. Only 1% of water we use for drinking. This number will fall in 0 if we don't stop using water like were using now. If you want to help the world, stop using water too much.

ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT
Everyone needs energy for many things like: for heating, for light, transport and other things. How we get the energy? We must use many elements... These kinds of elements destroy our environment, especially environment in Kosova, where industries don't have filters. We don't want to say to you "don't use energy" we want to say "use energy for better things than you are using now". You could start helping the world by not using energy for everything, you could start that in you home, for e.g. when no one is in the room, put your lights off, close your window good, by helping your parents for isolation of your house (all these things would save 20% of energy).

NATURE PROTECT
Many animals and vegetables today are risked. Industry and people integration are destroying the environment. Many vegetables are despairing, some of them are despairing from polluted air. For making good life, wearing the leather jackets and having good household furniture, in every year millions of animal lives are killed. Some of them are transported into different zoo's, and people sell them, some of them are used for different medically things. So many animals are risked and many of them are despaired. For protecting the animals are formed many organizations, like World Wildlife Found (WWF) that fights against killing animals.

HOW CAN WE USE GARBAGE?
Many thrown garbage are used. We can use garbage for many things, like: broken glasses or flashes we can use for putting a flower in it; papers and newsletter we can prepare industry and use them again; with broken glasses we can build an aquarium... Young Ecologists made one... etc.

TREES ARE USEFUL
Trees are very useful for earth and environment and they have many functions, like: Productive one: If we look around us we will see many things obtained from tree, like: chairs, desks, pencils etc. Many kinds of trees are used to treat diseases. Many kinds of trees and vegetables are used to eat. Protection function: Trees are homes for many animals. They protect us from loud noise etc. Cleaning function: Trees, vegetables by taking CO2 and giving O2 makes the air fresher. Creative function: Trees inspirit many artists, drawers, singers, writers, they also are the place where we can have a rest and fresh air... As you can see the trees are very useful. Now the people, by not knowing how much trees are useful, destroy the trees. Plant trees, protect the old trees, save your life...

POLLUTION
Did you saw or felt pollution? Why is pollution so bad for us? How do we pollute the air, water or earth?

AIR POLLUTION
Many times we can see or feel polluted air, which comes from industries, houses, from different cars or garbage's. But there are many other kinds of things that pollute the air and which we can't see, like: CO, CO2, NOSO2, CFC, etc. What does polluted air do to us? It destroys our life. From polluted air we get many breathing diseases, which can cost us a life. Save your self, don't pollute the air...

WATER POLLUTION
Polluted water can do negative things for vegetables, animals and people health. Polluted water comes from different industries, from different garbage's (that are thrown in oceans). But, we can pollute the water in our homes too, for e.g. by using bad detergents that contains some chemical elements that are danger for living beans lives in waters. We must always take a care not to buy detergents that contains those kinds of chemical elements. What does polluted water? Like air pollution, water pollution destroys our lives too, especially children's life.

LOUD NOISE
Loud noise in big cities is very bad for living beans lives. Loud noise comes from different industries, cars, different electrical things etc. but it can destroy our ears, and it doesn't let us to read and learn. Many scientists say: The workers that work in loud noise, after ten years can't hear well. Some cities have a rule with in parks, in places where people live, no one can't do a loud noise.

What do Young Ecologists think for environment?
Is it health or not?
Why?

Kujtimi: Environment is not healthy. Garbage's are everywhere, there are not many vegetables and trees.
Dreni: Air is polluted, in schools in the walls are drawn many things, there are not many vegetables and flowers, that gives us fresh air.
Edini: Near houses are many garbage's thrown by people.
Vlera: Polluted air, cars and lots of garbage's.
Dafina: Cigarette smoke, which makes a lots of damages to ourselves.
Kujtesa: Our environment is not healthy, just go out and you will find the answers.
Agimi: There are a lot of trees that are cut.
Shpati: Loud noise that comes from cars and airplanes, damages our ears.
Alban: I have an asthma disease, and I got it from bad environment.

PROJECTS AND ECOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES
Some of ecological actions organized by Young Ecologists (in association with Open Society Club) will help you to learn more about ecology:

POSTERS
One of the problems of our environment is also garbage. For this (garbage problem) we did some posters fir maintaining the environment that we put in our schools. Material that is needed: pencils, papers and colors. Posters are made in groups, in each poster there is drawing, but there is also ecological adverb. In the end we put posters in the primary schools (of Prishtina).

BIRD'S CAGE
As we know, here in Prishtina, children's play game, they take birds and they cut their arms. Usually children's find the birds in the roofs of different houses. The Young Ecologists, often have a talk about these birds life, which are in danger. In one meeting they decided to make a birds house, in their office garden. After a few days they made a kind of house for birds. So, Young Ecologists, decided to show you something about this kind of birds house. Here is what they said: "First you must find a perfect place for house, a place that can be seen by all birds. Then, after making the house, you must put some bread and water in the top. The house can be build by YOU, and it could save the birds lives, which are in danger".

AQUARIUM
One day Young Ecologists went to a walk and they saw a big broken glass. Then, Kujtim, got the idea to make an aquarium from that broken glass. First, they took a taxi and transported the broken glass into offices of Club for Open Society. Then they called glassmaker to form that kind of home. Than they bought other things which were needed to make the aquarium. Kosova Fund for Open Society (KFOS) financed all this. After a day, in Club for Open Society, were many fish swimming in their new fish home.

RESEARCHES IN OUR CITY
You don't need to go in jungle to research, you can do it in our city, or better to say, in capital of Kosova, Prishtina. This is what we did when we made a research in our city. First we went to our City Park. It didn't looked like a park. This, before ten years, was the best part of our city. It was full of trees, resting chairs, it was so clean and healthy. But now... It is destroyed. There is small number of trees, there are no resting chairs (people took them in their home). It was full of garbage, and there where no garbage baskets. Half of the trees are cut. In the middle of the City Park, there where build houses (even that it is illegal) in which lived people. It was terrible... Than we went to visit the Germia mountains. But, by going in the Germia mountain, we saw a school, which garden was full of garbage. Germia is a mountain, which is 6 kilometers near Prishtina. This is the only place in Prishtina, where people go to have a rest. This mountain, is full of different kinds of trees and animals. Here you can find one of the most dangerous snakes in Europe. It is full of fresh air. Some doctors say, that Germia was used to treat many diseases. In Germia there is also a pool, the only pool in Prishtina. It has lots of stadiums (basket one, football, volleyball, tennis).
